What Is Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer?
Breast augmentation enhances the breasts, creating a fuller, more voluptuous bustline. But have you ever wanted to take fat from your stomach, arms, or thighs and move it to your breasts? Thanks to the fat transfer breast augmentation, it’s now possible.
Breast augmentation with fat transfer takes excess fat from other areas of the body and places it within the breasts to contour other areas of the body while increasing breast size.
At the Landings Surgical Centre, Drs. Richard Bendor-Samuel and Louis Boileau explain the breast augmentation with fat transfer procedure to patients from the Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, areas.
What Is Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer?
Breast augmentation with fat transfer is a way to enlarge the breasts using the patient’s own fat cells instead of saline or silicone implants.
Also called fat grafting, fat transfer makes it possible to move unwanted fat from one area of the body - like the hips, thighs, stomach, and arms - to the breasts, to enhance their size and appearance.
The Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Procedure
During the fat transfer breast augmentation procedure, fat is removed from one or more areas of the body using liposuction.
The harvested fat cells are cleaned and purified before being injected into the breasts. Injections are made in a strategic manner to optimize results and create larger, natural-looking breasts.
Fat transfer breast augmentation can be repeated to achieve the desired results.
Recovery After Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
After the breast augmentation fat transfer procedure is complete, the breasts are wrapped and held in place with a surgical bra to help the newly transferred fat to settle into place.
Although fat transfer breast augmentation is less invasive than traditional breast augmentation, patients will need time to recover from both liposuction and the fat transfer. They should plan to take at least a week off from work. Strenuous activity should also be avoided until cleared by a doctor.
Additionally, patients should expect some bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the breasts and areas treated with liposuction. Even so, many patients find recovery much easier and less painful than traditional breast augmentation with implants.
What Type of Results Should Be Expected?
Breast augmentation with fat transfer enhances the size of the breasts, adding volume and improving the shape of the breasts. Although the breasts will look larger after the procedure, it can take up to six months for the final results to develop. During this time, the fat cells will settle into their new position within the breasts.
Because fat transfer is performed with small injections, patients will not have scars on the breasts after treatment.
It’s important to note that a single fat transfer creates a subtle but noticeable size increase in the breasts. However, women who want to significantly increase their breast size may need additional fat transfer treatments or may be better candidates for breast augmentation with implants.
