Liposuction for the Chin and Neck
Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure designed to remove excess fat from targeted areas of the body, specifically areas that do not respond well to diet and exercise.
It's not uncommon for people who have lost weight or are within a few pounds of their desired weight to find that their chin and neck retains unwanted fat. When this is the case, liposuction may offer a solution to remove stubborn fat to create a slender neck and streamlined chin.
How Is Liposuction Performed on the Chin and Neck?
Liposuction is performed on the chin and neck by making small, discreet incisions. A cannula, which is a small tube, is inserted into the skin through these incisions and excess fat is suctioned out of the neck and chin areas to sculpt a more contoured, slender look.
If tumescent liposuction is used, a fluid of saline and an anesthetic is injected before fat is suctioned out to help loosen fat cells and reduce bleeding.
Liposuction Results
Many patients notice an immediate difference in their chin and neck after the liposuction procedure but full results may take several weeks or months to appear. This is because it takes some time for swelling to resolve and for the skin to adjust to its new contours.
Although full results may take several weeks to months to appear, patients can expect to see a more slender looking neck and chin after surgery. Other results may include:

Candidates for Chin and Neck Liposuction
Liposuction works best on those with good skin elasticity and who are at or close to their ideal weight. It is not to be used as a weight loss method and instead should be used to enhance areas that have not responded to diet and exercise.
Those who have excess, loose skin around their neck are typically not good candidates for liposuction alone as liposuction does not remove excess skin. When excess skin is an issue, liposuction may be combined with neck lift surgery.
